There are so many places to see and explore across the world, it can be difficult to choose where to go next. Since I believe time in the great outdoors will empower you to overcome anxiety and overwhelm, there will be tons of wild adventures, great hiking trails and road trips to help you explore the beautiful landscapes of the world.
Just so you know up front, I love hiking all day, but prefer sleeping on a comfortable hotel or rental bed with a hot shower. There will be recommendations on great accommodations in locations that allow you to wander through amazing outdoor nature trails. Part of me wants to embrace camping and one day soon maybe I'll experience the fun of sleeping under the stars.
A thrilling adventure should be a new activity that pulls you out of your comfort zone and forces you to face your fears. Whether it is fear of heights, death, or whatever limits you put on yourself, overcoming a fear by participating in a outdoor adventure, will bring you a sense of accomplish like nothing you have ever experienced.
I have yet to skydive, but I was scheduled to do it with my sister on our Canadian Icefields Parkway & Glacier Road Trip, but got cancelled due to wildfires filling the air with too much smoke. Some activities that you will read about are ziplining and repelling through the Costa Rica rain forest, paragliding the cliffs of La Jolla in San Diego, white water rafting the Ocoee River in Tennessee and learning to snow ski as an adult.
Enjoy reading about my adventures and how I overcame my anxiety and fears to experience emotions I never thought possible. I hope you discover inspiration to find your next thrilling outdoor adventure.
HIKE THE GREAT OUTDOORS
Hiking a great trail not only can take you to crazy cool landscapes, but is also a fantastic workout for your entire mind, body and soul. A good hiking trail does not have to be in a dramatic location, it can also be a simple path that gives you a chance to get lost in nature. I would say day hiking (remember I stay in hotels/rentals) is my favorite regular outdoor activity. Discover your next great trail and lose yourself in nature soon!
Spending time in nature can remind you of the important things in life, because it gives you time to think and really check in with how YOU are doing. The fast pace of modern society does not allow time to focus on your happiness and the grind of work life can cause incredible stress. Make time for YOU! It is not only okay, but you should require it as part of your daily life.
Nature is one place I've found that allows me to slow down. My mind races with ideas and thoughts all the time, but when I truly relax in nature and focus on the sights and sounds around me then I can find my inner voice and work on improving my daily happiness.
Experience nature on a regular basis in order to maintain a positive and motivating mindset and remind yourself of the importance of YOUR mental and physical health.
ULTIMATE ROAD TRIPS
Getting the most out of a destination usually entails driving. My sister and I have taken road trips to a new level. We usually take ten days including flight days, but packing tons of activities, hikes and locations into that time frame. You would think we would be exhausted by the end, but I feel more inspired to find the next destination to explore.
From Canada's Icefields Parkway to the California Pacific Coast Highway, you will find daily itineraries, recommended accommodations and trail details for each of our Sister Adventures. My favorite state to explore in the U.S. so far is UTAH. Hop in the car and explore near your home to get started on your first road trip.
EXPLORE CITIES OF THE WORLD
Exploring cities around the world can help immerse you in a new culture. You will find tips to find nature in each of the cities that I visit. It is always a priority to me, because finding your way in a new city can cause stress from transportation to language, but nature brings that calming peace of mind to your travel.
Even though I prefer to experience the outdoor portions of cities, you will find indoor activities like art and science museums along the way, because I love my husband and his love of those things. Let's explore the world together!
